Provide, Encourage, and Set the Example

So why health and inspiration?

Since 1997, I have known that I wanted to help others. My journey started as a junior firefighter with a local VFD. I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to volunteer for my community. Through exposure of public service, I discovered healthcare and the world of pre-hospital care.

In 2000, I completed my EMT Basic training at a local community college.  While attending my first year of college (Accounting Major), I felt that I wasn't in the right place.  One month shy of finishing my first year of my college studies, I lost a very dear friend in a sudden tragic accident.  With his inspiration prior to his passing, I realized at that moment that he was right and I should be a nurse. He believed in me and because of that- I believed in myself.

2001 I enrolled in Nursing School. After some rough semesters, I finished with my Associates Degree in Nursing.  During school, again with encouragement, I applied for a casual job at a local hospital as a technician. That job eventually landed me in the Emergency Department, where I was also blessed enough to do a summer Nurse Internship in Emergency Nursing.  After graduation I starting working immediately. Like most events in my life, I was asking myself what more I could do to better myself as a person, professional, and how I could contribute to the community.

A month after obtaining my Associate Degree, I enrolled in my Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree program. I continued to work in the Emergency Department, obtained my PHRN and continued volunteering in Pre-hospital care at my local ambulance service.

In 2005 I obtained my Bachelor Degree but again wanted to see what more I could do so I could more people.  I enrolled very shortly into a Graduate Program in Nursing Science.  Throughout that time I got married, continued to volunteer on the ambulance and with the fire department, and just keep going by encouragement of others.

In 2008 I obtained my Masters Degree of Science in Nursing.  That is when I realized I wanted to take some time to focus on my relationships and family.  That is when I realized that I was going to encounter a personal struggle. My health was not ideal and that would then affect me, which in turn ended up to be infertility.

What? Infertility?! I was 26 years old! That's impossible! Well, it was true. My weight and bad habits ended up being Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.  Months of testing, needles, probes, scans, and tons of tears, I realized that I could have made better decisions.  That was the moment that I was going to stop the daily sabotage and get SMART. If it is one thing I learned throughout that emotional struggle- I learned that only you can control your outcomes- no one else.

Better decisions happened and even better outcomes occurred.  November 2010 I found out that my miracle came true.  I was pregnant.  July 30th my 8 pound 5 ounce blessing was born!

So in all, my inspiration in life came from simple encouragements- and my goal is to return the encouragements for others to be inspired.
